Or you can say that Mykonos is the only place where tendering and docking needs a boat. Let’s see why.
The old town of Mykonos does not have such a large area. Also called Chora, it is the capital of the island of Mykonos and can be crossed on foot without too many problems. But to reach the shore and visit this wonderful historical place, when you are on a cruise, you have two options.
- Docking in New Port, at a distance of 1.5 miles / 2.4 km from the tourist area (Old Port). You can walk there in 30 minutes or you can take a WaterTaxi boat for €2 that will take you there in 10 minutes.
- Your cruise ship is tendering near the city and you will arrive in the Old Port with a local transport boat in about 6 minutes.
Pro tip – how to get to Mykonos
When your ship is docking in Mykonos New Port, to get to the tourist area take the water taxi that is located right outside the docking area, at a walking distance of 3 minutes. This will take you to the Old Port, right where the visit zone begins.

Is Mykonos a party island?
You will have to make a trip there to see, but from my point of view, it was full of families with children and people of all ages. I can’t tell you what happens when night falls.
Is Mykonos expensive?
With some isolated exceptions, Mykonos also belongs to the category of isolated seasonal tourist islands, which have profit for a limited time, therefore the common tendency is to get as much as possible. So I would say that Mykonos is expensive. However, with a little effort, I also found affordable prices for souvenirs or local clothes. In the area of services (restaurants, bars and hotels in Mykonos), unfortunately the prices are high.
