If you ask any passenger on a cruise ship what are the most important factors that influence them during the trip, they will most likely answer food and service. Even if it is before traveling, during or after the stay, everyone will be affected in one way or another by these two aspects. We can adapt to any situation, such as the itinerary, activities on board, entertaining, but we cannot ignore the dining options or the services, especially if they are of poor quality.
This post will be about food.
All companies try to impress, either through unique dishes prepared by famous chefs, or through authentic tastes, or through sustainable food aligned with current trends. All of these are great, but they represent only apart of the food offered on board through the main or specialty restaurants. Only some passengers go to these restaurants. Instead, everyone will dine at the buffet restaurants. Whatever the time of day, if we feel like eating, we will go to the informal restaurant of the cruise ship where reservation is not necessary.
In recent years, companies adapt to the needs of passengers and continuously improve the buffet menu.
I was impressed with the upgrade made by Royal Caribbean in the Windjammer marketplace through the enhanced diversity and quality of the food and the overall services of the restaurant. This is happening onboard the Oasis-class Symphony of the Seas. The only downside was the dining area, which is almost always cramped and crowded during peak hours.
I propose to watch a series of three clips (for each part of the day) with a tour of the entire Windjammer marketplace. In this post you will see the tour for breakfast.
